Coaching Processes & Tools
Honestly, it starts with Dan.
I show up, fully prepared and focused on you. You will experience what “engaged” looks like, sounds like and feels like. I arrive with who I am, and the experience I can bring to our sessions. I follow a big-picture process that involves: (1) discovering and defining your challenge, and (2) developing a pathway that delivers on your vision.
You arrive ready to engage.
Once you paint an accurate picture of who you are, we can begin to determine your best course of action. Significant conversations are at the heart of my coaching process. Dialogue is an exchange of words and non-verbal communication where we both arrive at a common understanding. I will consistently seek clarity in our work to ensure maximum efficiency in gathering data. What may seem like “just talking” is, in fact an exchange of valuable information we can use to spring forward toward achieving the purpose of your sessions.
Primary processes that guide us.
Experiential learning is at the heart of my approach. It is one of the foundational stepping stones that has transformed my life. Experiential-based learning and training has connections to John Dewey and David Kolb. Even more, experiential processes are central to effective military training, Outward Bound, Project Adventure, National Outdoor Leadership School, and progressive techniques designed to transform people. If you are satisfied with good enough, I may not be the best coach for you. If you just want to get buy and fake it ‘til you make it, I may not be the best coach for you. If you believe you’re right and the world's wrong, I may not be the best coach for you.
If you truly desire help getting from point A to point, or what I like to say, “crossing the river” - - I may be able to help you.
If you truly want to adventure up the proverbial mountain and explore your mindset - - I may be able to help you.
If you feel stuck, frustrated, or in a pattern of behavior that’s not giving you the results you hope for - - I may be able to help you.
Tools that can help you get out of the box.
I get very excited thinking about ways to help you. I’ve been taught by gurus across the country who have guided meaningful experiences that changed me. Along the way, I’ve gathered tools, skills, and competencies that build better teams and leaders who get better results. When people started asking me questions during training breaks, I realized they wanted two more things: (1) to share their stories with me, and (2) to learn more about the tools I used. Viola! My coaching practice sprung forth. One-on-one engagement had a different result from the small group work I’ve practiced for over half my life. So some of the tools you may experience working with me:
Personal assessments (SHAPE-PRO, DISC, EQ, Life Wheel, etc.)
Visual facilitation tools to paint the picture and gain clarity
Digital and print organization tools
Operational concepts used throughout experiential training (power of choice, values clarification, establishing full value, etc.)
Adult learning strategies combined with placing theory into practice
From life coaching to business coaching?
As you journey along a path of discovery, it is possible that you want more advanced skills to expand your professional capacity. Many of these skills, competencies and attitudes share common ground by existing in both circles of your life. My processes and your commitment will guide your next steps. It is your decision, it is your future; you have the power to greatly influence how it unfolds.
Business and executive coaching can focus on various topics, including individual agency and team leadership. Additional tools may be introduced at this level, along with work plan development to outline pathways toward your personal and professional goals.
